Pricing Guide: What to Expect.

It is common knowledge that horse riding at a professional level is not the cheapest options, first of all I would like to explain exactly why that is so. As a sport that involves animals, a lot of finance goes into sustaining them:

1. Riding Lessons

Most people start with lessons at a local riding club.

• Group lesson: €25–€40 per session

• Private lesson: €45–€70 per session

Prices usually depend on the location and chosen club, since they are based around maintenance of the center or the experience of the instructors. Group lessons are more affordable however not always suitable for beginners, a certain level of control needs to be established before, and private lessons are usually chosen by first-timers, people that are only being introduced into solo riding, or riders who want faster progress or focused training, those preparing for competitions or aiming for a higher level .

2. Owning a Horse in Cyprus

Owning a horse is where costs increase significantly for multiple reasons, food, attention from employees and other care.

• Basic livery/place only €300–€450 a month

• Full livery (feeding, cleaning, basic care)  €500–€800/month

Additional costs:

• Farrier (every 6–8 weeks): €50–€100

• Vet care & vaccinations: €200–€500 per year

• Equipment (one-time pay): €800–€2,000+

Owning a horse in general is not suitable for every level of riders, therefore it is best when a certain level of skill is already achieved.

3. Equipment & Clothing

Some of the things are going to be provided by the club, some are best purchased for hygiene reasons, however that is individual and below is the full list:

• Riding helmet and body protector: each €50–€150

• Riding boots: €80–€250

• Breeches & gloves: €50–€150.

To summarize and make sure the right message reaches my audience, not all investments are necessary in the beginning, or in some cases at all, since it depends on the level and further plans for this sport. Though, price is an important point to consider when deciding whether to invest your time into this hobby.
