As someone who has first hand experienced and went through most stages of development in the field to become a professional athlete, I have witnessed and participated in practices that help identify the level of development of Equestrian sport in Cyprus. And, sadly, it has not yet fully reached its potential, however, this is the exact reason why I want to bring more attention to the sport and its benefits, as in many ways, people’s interest provokes development better than any other method.

The Equestrian Federation of Cyprus has, for sure, majorly contributed in the recent years, increasing the chances for athletes to move on to an international level, by hosting competitions, supporting the riders and using the method of careful selection promoting and even sponsoring those, who stand out. On the other hand, some lack of equipment and, therefore, right practice sometimes does not allow the competitors to reach their full potential when it comes to the level of international competitions. Of course, this is also due to the location of Cyprus, which means every competition season abroad requires transportation for all necessary equipment and, of course, horses, which creates a lot of risks around the state of their physical health and psychological pressure.

To avoid that, I believe it’s safer to fully focus on internal development and opening up the full potential in Cyprus, in order to minimize traveling risks for animals. It, for sure, cannot be fully avoided if brought to an international competition level, however will minimize the travels done for practice and majorly contribute to the wellbeing of the animals. I believe, the more people get interested in the sport, the likelier it is to change for the better and be introduced to a new level, eventually, maybe even attracting international organizations for competition hosting.
